Hard Drive Requirements

Hey gang, Newbie here.

I've done my research on upgrading my hard drive on my Laptop.
I am going to clone my existing drive onto my new drive.
I bought everything that's required. The one thing I dont know is...

The new Hard Drive states that my system has to support
6 Gb/s SATA. What is that? How do I know if my computer does?

That's the one thing I can't figure out.

Hard drive SATA types are backwards compatible, so your computer doesn't NEED to support 6Gb/s. Only to get that kind of data transfer speeds does it need to.
 
Oh, gotcha. Thanks for the info. I think I have everything else figured out.
Appreciate the reponse. Look forwad to reading all of the great topics on the boards. Some stuff I had questions on I see posted. Even on cloning.
