i was looking at some hard drives and i noticed some were 3.5in and some were 2.5in. which ones work with sony notebooks? and as long as its the same size with the same connector, will it work?
Usually copy/pasting everything is fine. I wouldn't copy/paste the OS but some people have done it. You'll have to partition/format the drive before you do anything though.
You could also use Ghost or similar program to make an image of the drive restore it to the new one. Most hard drive manufacturers have a program you can use to clone drives that is free to use as well.
It's not as simple as "backing up" the info, you really need to "clone" the drive. Cloning makes a complete copy of all system files and transfers them to another hard drive. Backing up usually justs backs up the folders and such, not the registry and system files.
If you mean backing up your internal HDD to an external and trying to boot from it instead of the internal I dont think that is possible. You would have to install windows on the external then backup your internal HDD to the external. Then repeat for the new internal.
I think Pheonix is one of the F# keys. You should have enough time to hit them all and the delete key if it doesn't tell you (it should say somewhere even if it's got a full screen logo)
