Well here is an update with this situation.
After filing a complaint with BBB and having the case escalated to Corporate Customer Service I finally talked to a Customer service rep who was not only the MOST helpful rep there but also very knowledgeable about the products. After explaining my issues and my distaste for how Seagate is handling the firmware issue.............aka not issuing a recall on effected hard drives. She agreed with me that waiting 6 weeks for my hard drive to be repaired and having to pay shipping to and from the depot was not acceptable and she replaced my 500 gig drive with a 750 gig 32MB drive.
I just got the new drive today which they sent next day air and sent out the door stop.
I must say I'm happy with the out come but not happy with how many hoops I had to jump through to get someone to listen and understand where the customers are coming from.
