Hard drive swap

Just means you didn't activate windows within the 30 days. You need to activate windows.
 
Press the Windows key and hit the Break key. That will open system information. Alternatively if that doesn't work right click on Computer and choose Properties. On the bottom you click on Change Product Key and enter the key you used when you originally installed Vista (if you did - otherwise look at your tower and type that code in). If it says you can't activate it online, just call the Microsoft robot and go through the steps to activate Windows.
