Hard drive transfer

When I build my new comp I won't have the OS until vista comes out. Can I just remove the drive from the old comp to the new comp? It has windows 2000 installed on it.
 
i heard that you cant because windows wont recognize the motherboard and its BIOS, its like the way they know its not being installed illegally.

But i am not entirely sure.
 
You can easily move drives around. Running Windows without a good reinstall of 2000 with the drivers/softwares if any for the new board would be a different matter. There you may run into some small problems. But 2000 isn't quite as hardware glued as XP. The Vista installer will obviously auto remove the 2000 installation later.
