Hard Drive Troubles

Ok so I just bought an old 80 gig hard drive and I'm putting it in a 800 mhz PIII on a DFI board. So I was installing windows and it was creating a list to copy files. It restarted and then came up there was a missing NTLDR(NT Loader) and random green and purple letters came up. I tried XP Home and Pro and 2000 and none work. However the 80 gig works as a slave. IS this fixable?

Is this 80GB drive the only one in the comp?
Before trying to install windows XP did you do a full reformat to NTFS?

Yes this is the only hard drive and I did refomat

Anyway I just went and got another brand new hard drive 80 gig again. It finishes reformatting and loads windows xp home screen slowly and comes to a blue screen..... and never mind it just started working.

O more troubles. The blue screen is back and it says
Unmountable_Boot_Volume

Are you using a 80 wire IDE cable, Ive seen that happen with 40 wire IDE cables with newer harddrives

How can you tell the difference?

Well, you can count the ridges on the cable, after you get to about 20 you can tell if it is or not

I was using a 40 pin but I have an 80 pin I'm going to try. Is it possibly my ram thats being the trouble?

You mean 80 wire 40 pin, theres still just 40 pins

ya thats wat I meant. And I finally fixed it all that was wrong is that the heatsink was not big enough.
