ok long story short,
i need help..
couple of days ago i got some bsod and then nothing.
i tried reinstalling xp and it kept giving me 0x8e (file system issues).
2k wouldn't install either.
i changed my maxtor 6v250f0[stata2] hard drive for wd1200jp-00dua3(IDE) hard drive and i got win2k to work (xp still will not install, it moved to 0x5? error).

anywho, after installation and getting back up, i tried ghost from DOS on my stata drive. i made a partition that win2k reads. here is where i get confused:

win2k admin tools doesn't show E:\ , but my computer shows E:\ (this is my partition on my sata drive).
win2k admin tools shows the Sata drive as "Unreadable", when I right click on it , i get "Revert back to Basic Disk".

I need to get to this drive, i have r-undelete(actually bought it due to another miss happ long time ago) that I think will help me get some of my files back.. but i can't get to the drive and win2k is being a jerk..
please help me... my computer is in my sig file. thanks.

When you installed the WD 120gb drive did you master it on the end of the ide primary cable and set the bios to ide or leave it set for SATA? If the setting there isn't correct that could be a problem for installing XP. For data recovery there are a few options when a drive becomes unreadable. One is the exceptionally few freewares for data recovery. PCSTATS addresses that problem with some freeware suggestions at http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleid=1139&page=6

Know any Linux users? Knoppix Live for dvd/cd is one recommended tool for data recovery when a drive is either unbootable or inaccessible. Other live versions like ubuntu live will also run from a cd you boot from and can copy files from one drive to another. First you want to find out why XP won't go on the WD 120gb drive there. You may want to change the drive's jumper to the cable select position instead of having it set as master and try again.
