Hard Drive Wiring

Hello All. I have a SATA hard drive from an old external. I have the plugs that go into the hard drive, however, the power part was removed from the board. I simply have the power and data connections, with the power connection ending in the four colored wires. Is there any way I can splice those wires into a computer, such as by cutting off a molex connection and using those wires?

as far as i know NO dont try it becaus then you (if i understude you right) you have power going to those wires and comign out not goodly;) and im not even sure you can reconect the molex to it hope it helped:)

I already tried it...my main hard drive works just fine. The 320 doesn't work at the moment, but even as an external it had off and on periods.

hhmm realy well good for you :) you might want to make sure that wire is away from the mobo just incase something bad happens and it becomes active and we all know what a jolt of electricity does to a mobo :( i do hope ive helped though

Yeah, the external doesn't work. Sometimes, it just doesn't spin up. I don't know why. That's why I want to hook it up and copy everything off of it. (And yes, I watch house)

Well, I don't know why it doesn't work. Sometimes, it doesn't spin up. Sometimes, it does. So I'm just waiting for when it will work again.

Update. The hard drive will sometimes spin up when the computer boots. However, the computer does not recognize the drive. Anything I can try?

try hooking the hard drive up to a different power supply cord. my power supply is having a few problems where some of my 4-pin molex's and SATA connectors have hardly any power to them to start up.
