Hard Drive Write Protected

Hi all,

I have just installed an old Seagate IDE hard drive in a PC. The main hard drive is SATA. It is connected to an Ultra ATA Ribbon Cable which is also connected to the CD drive.

The drive shows up perfectly, I can see the files in it. But when I try to format or change it in anyway it tells me it is write protected. I tried adjusting the Jumper pins, bt maybe I did it wrong.
I am running Windows 7, btw.

I'd really appreciate any help,
Thanks! :)

Hi Jason... I'm called Jason too. :D

Download Boot and Nuke (DBAN), burn it to a CD, turn off your PC, disconnect your primary drive leaving only the one you want to format connected, then boot off the DBAN disc you just burned and try to format the disk that way.

Obviously afterwards reconnect your primary HDD and boot into Windows and see if it works.

Have you tried formatting the drive through disk management in Windows though?

What is the model of the hard drive? It could be the jumper is set to Read Only on the drive. If you tell us the model number we may be able to find the correct information for you.
