Hey, does it matter how old hard drives are? I have an old one from an xp with like 250gbs on it, if I used this in a new computer would it be ok? I am going to be gaming alot on my new computer, I'm just wondering if I can use my old hard drive instead of buying a new one for like 100$.
 
Nearly all modern computers will come with a Serial ATA hard drive :P Therefore IDE won't be compatible, unless you buy an adaptor or something :)
 
So you're building? For gaming, you'll ideally want a newer HDD, they are much faster, and your games will load quicker. If you're forking out loads of cash on the rest of the system, surely it's worth spending another £30 on a decent Hard Disk Drive ? :)
 
Yeah, I'm building a new rig, but I don't have loads of cash. Would I have to buy a 1TB? Is there like a new 200GB hard drive out there?
 
You would only need a 1TB if you were doing alot of HD video editing, or are a massively hardcore gamer, or if you store alot of... stuffe.g. movies, music, etc. :)
 
I'm across the pond from you (usa) :P Does the amount of space on the hard drive do anything to the computer's speed? Like is 250GB slow, and 1TB fast?
(Oh and I found a 500GB one would that be ok for gaming?)

Why is this one Seagate ST95005620AS MomentusXT 500GB Solid State 130$, but this one Western Digital WD5000AAKS Caviar Blue Hard Drive 40$? They have the same amount of space!
 
The reason is that SSD (solid state Drives) are Much, much faster at retrieving data, and they are also more robust :) You don't get much storage, but it's lightning quick :P

500GB is more than adequate for a gamer :)
