Hard drives extremely hot

I have 2 hard drives in my computer and they both become so hot that almost can't touch them. I guess it could make the air very hot inside the case!!!

My case is designed so I could add a fan just under the hard drive. How should I install it the make the air cooler? : should I use the fan to take the air out of the case, or should I use it the let the air come into it?

Thanks

which case is it? what kind of setup do you have right now? how many blowing in and what size(s) and how many blowing out and what size(s)?

My case is exactly like this one, except that I don't have a place to install a fan under the power supply.

But I could install a fan under the hard drive ; as on the picture.

I actually don't have any fan, except the one for the processor.

Here's what's in my computer:
HD1 = 20Go
HD2 = 40Go
DVD burner
CD burner
Athlon 1.8Ghz
1.2 Go RAM
Video: Asus Geforce fx 5200 128ram

that case just doesn't have very good airflow. what temps are you getting for your hdd? you could always try and do a mod on your case or buy a different one but other than that it doesn't look like you have any options.

Wait a second. Your case has no perforated grille under the power supply? It's solid steel?

Install some noctura 120mm fans on that case, 1 or 2 on the front where the hd is (mod it if you have too) and then another at the back.

Is that a desktop/horizontal case? Haven't seen one of those in a while...lol.

I would either attempt to put a decent-sized fan in the side/top panel (the one that's removed), or put one in the rear. Tracing a CD make a perfect hole for a 120mm fan.

That case looks crap,Id actualy get a new case....it would probably be cheaper than buying 2x HDD coolers and a decent fan for the front.

Something like the Antec 200 if you want to keep it cheap.

I would get a 80mm fan....put 4 screws in it...get 4 round rubber rings to put on the bottom of it and have it blow on the HDD. I do it with any of those mini-atx cases my friends/family buy for direct air on the actual HDD to drop temps 10-15c on some. Just a thought if u wanna save some money vs buying a new case. (rubber to prevent noise from vibration and to prevent metal touching so I could sit it on the HDDs when I needed too)

Also if you can id switch the hdd around...the underbelly is the best place to have the fan blowing directly on it....makes a huge difference in temps.

I do have a perforated grille under the power supply, and also one on the front under the hdd. But this one had too small holes, so I make one big hole that has the size of a fan and I fixed a fan there, to get the air outside of the case. So I have an airflow between the rear grille and the front fan and it makes a big difference. It cost me only 10$.

Thanks to everyone.

Np glad to see you got it worked out. One important thing is if you can do it make sure the fan is blowing air to the HDD...will improve cooling as its cooler air :)

if it costs more than 50 bucks to do the mods...id just recommend getting a antec 300...the illusion has decent airflow and filtered intakes...

If possible move the hard drives away from each and other components so they can cool a bit better. Use tie wraps or velcro wraps to keep the cables and wires out of the way For better air flow. Clear out all the dust from the power supply and cpu fan.
