Which is the better drive? Western Digital - My Book Essential 2TB External USB 3.0/2.0 Hard Drive or Seagate - FreeAgent GoFlex Desk 2TB External USB 2.0/3.0 Hard Drive

in general i rate western digital just ahead of seagate, but both are very good hdd makers doubt you would be disappointed by either, go for western digital unless the seagates a bit cheaper

Western Digital HDD - bad for desktop computers, good for laptops
Seagate HDD - good for desktop computers and good for laptops

Western Digital hard disk drives are usually known under the therm CLICKING SOUND in big computers. That means that their heads simply all of a sudden stops reading the plate and that results to a DEAD HDD.

As for the Seagate, they are great and do not have problems like Western Digital hard disk drives.

My recommendation is definetely Seagate HDD.It is cheaper and a LOT better then the Western Digital hard disk drives.

Are you serious?

You shouldn't be posting if you know absolutely nothing. Western Digital drives are widely regarded as the most reliable on the market. If you've had a bad experience with them it doesn't mean all of them are bad.

Seagate drives are fine (aside from the 7200.11 which had almost a 50% fail rate) but no more reliable than WD.

You are right Ethan. Western Digital makes great quality hard drives. I have an 80 gigabyte Western Digital hard disk drive that I have owned since about 2003 and it still works great.

+1

I've had many WD's and they've all worked fine. I was an unfortunate customer with one of the 7200.11 drives though

Hard drive quality tends to vary more from model to model rather than from brand to brand. Personally, I tend to go with whatever offers good performance for the money while maintaining good reviews rather than staying loyal to any particular brand.

I agree. That is very good advice.
