When you switch from a 40pin 40 wire IDE cable to a 40pin 80 wire IDE cable, does it autmatiically switch any settings or anything that would be needed? or is there anything else i'll have to do?
harddrive cables, when switching.

What are the DMA settings? I might have changed them, I dont remember.

Dma Settings...
These DMA settings would be in your bios which you can click on the drive u are gonna be using and then alot of things will come up such as pio settings, udma settings or dma...and that is what you wanna check make sure its set to auto, that way you won't have to do anything its gonna be all setup for ya..
