HardDrive Speed

I have a WD 80GB Caviar drive, 7200RPM
and a Maxtor 40GB also 7200RPM

When I run a speed test, the 40GB is almost 2X as fast...and I'm trying to find out how to fix this.

They are both relatively "empty" the 40GB is using 10GB, and the 80GB is only using 8GB.

the 40GB is ~122MB/S Ultra DMA 6 - Ultra133
the 80GB is ~74MB/s Ultra DMA 5 - Ultra100

How can i get my 80GB to run on Ultra DMA6 as well? I know it supports it!!!! They are both on the same cable, but for some reason I can't run them both at the same speed of ATA133 :( is it my mobo?

are you 100% sure it supports udma 6?

can u write down the exact model of your western digital HDD, and maxtor as well?

nvm...i am a dumbass. my WD 80GB is max ATA100 :( no wonder its slower lol

im usrprised my 40GB actually gets 122MB/s (max 133) and my 80GB only gets 74MB/S (max 100). seems to be large gap there.

i have a maxtor 40GB ata133 and my friend has WD 80GB ata100 and mine is a lot faster, don't be suprised, ata150 serial is even more faster

I have a SATA150>IDE adapter that i used for a while, but it didn't boost speeds at all. At least it isn't ATA66 lmao.

sata aren't good for overclocking, are you the one who fried his HDD becouse of increasing the FSB?

lol no, fortunately that wasn't me. But alot of people seem to have that problem. I know plenty of people with SATA drives and a SATA PCI controller that overclock jsut fine...many with huge overclocks 700MHz+. Must jsut be configuration. I think its necessary to get a secondary SATA controller or w/e its called in order to overclock effectively/safely.
