hardrive memory problem.

Hello,

my hardrive is supposed to be 250 gb, but on my C: it only shows 233 gb. I only have one partition and i tried creating a second using "Partition Magic" but it shows only "7.5mb unallocated". Why is it that i am missing 17 gb, what could be the problem?

that sounds about right but if you want to check right click my computer
and select manage then disk management there you will see all the allocated and unallocated information you need

There is no problem, You dont actually get the full size.... It takes that mount of room to format and partition the drive... 233 is AS BIG AS IT WILL GET.. :) have fun!

This occurs because drive manufacturers label 1kb as 1000 bytes, whereas Windows correctly identifies 1kb as 1024 bytes.

Now, doing the maths: 250GB @ 1000 bytes/kb = 250 * 1000 * 1000 * 1000 = 250000000000 bytes.

250000000000 bytes @ 1024 bytes/kb = 250000000000 / 1024 /1024 /1024 = 232.83GB, which rounds up to 233GB. This is the case with all hard drives, it is not a fault or unallocated space, it is simply deceptive marketing.

i love how these idiots are coming up with fake answers. the person i quoted is correct though....
same with mine man, 250gb = 232gb or so.
btw trizoy nice sig. lol

Yea, my 160 only show up as 153gb or something close to that. Also its not an "idiot" equation, hes right.
