So while building my new rig, i made the careless mistake of trying to install windows xp and of course wouldnt work cuz i have too much RAM, so my new hard drive currently has xp half loaded onto it. so i need to just erase everything an restart an install with my windows 7 (recently purchased) on this new hardrive. i know i have to format it, but can i do that from my new rig? or do i need to connect this new harddrive to another computer? please help.
thanks.

Too much ram wasn't the issue, but now that you have 7 you can use that disc to extend any partitions and format the drive. It will be along the steps a bit, but before it installs.

it had to of been too much ram, i have 8gb and it was xp 32 bit lol. but im still a bit confused, so what your saying is even though xp is half loaded, all i have to do is insert win 7 and it will just start installing 7 from there thus quit trying to install xp?

Yes, that is what he's saying.

And no, too much RAM isn't your problem. Even if XP had installed, you'd only see 4GB, if not less. That's all.

Hmm alright, ive been kept being told that too much ram was the issue, but maybe you're right. all i know is when i tried to instal xp, at about half way being instaled the blue screen appeared saying "irql_not_less_or_equal" and it was either bad hardware or to much mem (from what ive been told) and i returned my mobo and hard drive and ram, and it still happened.

Driver error. Must be a driver your board needs that XP doesn't have and can't load.

I have no idea, but the error you got relates to a driver XP tried to install and it didn't work right.
