Hardware Installation

Hi everyone,

Quick question. When you install new hardware such as RAM or CPU, is it just plug-in and power-up, or is there some kind of configuration I need to do?

HP Pavilion a1700n
CPU: Athlon 64 x2 3800+
MOBO: NODUSM3
RAM: 512KB x2

Swapping out the cpu to a Athlon 64 x2 5000+, and RAM to 1GB x2 DDR2 PC4200 533MHz low density non-buffered

There shouldn't be. May be wise to go into BIOS and either set everything as default after you installed the new parts or configure them to the way they're supposed to be. (RAM speed, timings, stuff like that.)

Normally when you boot your system , the BIOS will detect the changes and adjust accordinley.

The only time you need to go into the BIOS (Unless you know what you are doing) is if there is a problem, and then you need expert advise.
