Hardware Program

I am going to be receiving a free HP (kind of old) from a friend of mine, but neither I nor he know the exact hardware that's in it. Is there a free hardware diagnostic (I think that's the type of program) that will tell me what exactly my hardware is?

Depends what operating system you are using.
With some you can go to: Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System information.
This tells you quite a bit. Or you can look in control panel, System, Hardware (tab), then device drivers, this will tell you what the computer has recognised.
This is a quick alternative to downloading software that may or may not be of any use.

wcpuid or cpu-z are some of the best ones. wcpuid actually tells you chipsets(mobo and GPU)
