Hardware/Troubleshooting question...

I do not know if this is the appropriate forum but I'll ask anyways...

My computer has been acting strange

When I go to start it, after shutting it down normally, I use the power button and the computer SEEMS to boot up normally (by the normal audio indicators, fans and what not) however, no screen appears and nothing can be accessed, in fact, the monitor does not even respond. I shut it down by holding the power button in until the computer shuts down and contiune this course of action on it restarts, and when it does restart, it does so normally with no indicators or software problems, at leats to my knowledge. I had the power supply recently removed due to a subsequent power surge and surge protector failure so I began to think it is a hardware problem. If it is I am not sure where to begin. Any help or referral to appropriate board would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

i have had a similar problem which happens all the time, to fix mine i wrrote a new boot sector....

get your xp disc, boot from disc...

then go to repair, and type the command "chkdsk"

that will scan the disk for errors, then after that, type "fixboot"

that will write a new boot sector for you, then restart pc booting from hd...

hope that helps
