Hardware upgrade help

Hey I would like to know what to upgrade and what to upgrade it to.
Im a complete noobie

here are my current specs:

Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo E4700

Motherboard Model: GIGABYTE GA-P31-DS3L
Motherboard Chipset: Intel P31 (Bearlake) + ICH7
Motherboard Slots: 4xPCI, 2xPCI Express x1, 1xPCI Express x16
Two 1gb memory sticks (667)
Original Device Name: Intel G33/P35/Q35/Q33 Chipset - PCI
Original Device Name: nVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT (G86) 512mb
Intel 82801GB ICH7 - High Definition Audio [A1] ---------------------------
400W Power Supply
 
As a general rule and since you haven't given us an end game, add memory, larger or an additional hard drive, and upgrade your o/s.
 
Assume you are from US. I didn't recommend really expensive component, as it will be better off build another machine if you got that much of money.
