Has anyone here ever used QNX

Hi, at work we have a few machines that run QNX (similar to linux) and we're trying to make ghost copies of the hard drives as backups because they run 24/7. In addition we added a new machine recently and can't figure out how to get it to connect via network to the simulator computer. Something to do with nodes ect... I'm a bit lost. If anyone could be of help i'd greatly appreciate it.

First ghost does not care what the OS is, Ghost works at the binary level. you could have a 400 gig micky mouse movie on your hard drive and ghost will still ghost the micky mouse movie.

second ... why ? scrap the qnx or whatever. especially for work, unless you like pulling your hair out instead of doing business. Windows may not be perfect, but at least everyone will know what you are talking about and be able to help. + applications , drivers ..etc

First of all, these are CNC machines, you can't just change the operating system around when ever you feel like it. You're pretty much stuck with what you get. Not only that, but ghost must do something other than what you say because if it does exacty what you say it'd work. But when we try to run a ghosted hard drive the machine won't boot. It claims the operating system is on the wrong partition. Now there is a windows upgrade available for our newest machine so i'll be happy to upgrade as long as you shell out the $3,000 it costs for the upgrade. Here is a link to a machine similar to the one we have.

So, back to my origonal question, has anyone here had any experience with this operating system?

Oh yeah, I have this customer that has 2 386sx machines running 2 CNC machines. He has some sort of DOS OS. He got hit by lightening. It only fried his power supply. He has to use the exact same hardware, video card, motherboard...etc. There are only the drivers for what came with the original. I told him he should start looking on ebay for the mainboard and video, super i/o cards. I figure they are from around 1993. He hasn't though. He said the company has an upgrade, sounds like yours,,, maybe he is going to get that...who knows. I gave up trying to figure out my customers a long time ago. anyway the network nodes part sounds like Novell netware.

When you clone with ghost, do you clone to a cd or dvd, try hanging another HD on the cable and cloning directly to that. What I would recommend is diconnecting the cdrom or whatever on the second ide channel with nothing else. they might be employing some kind of copy protection to make it not copy right.
I would also look around the net for machinists forums or cnc forums that would have ppl that have done what you are trying to do.

yeah i did do a direct copy to another hard drive. I suppose it could be some sort of copy protection, not only do you have to have a hardware key to enable the software but there are some imbeded software copy protection features as well. Thanks for the tip on the networking, i'll look into that. Unfortunately i did some research and only our newest machine is upgradable, we're stuck with qnx on the old one.

yeah, see i successfully made a backup copy with all the files intact, it just won't boot from that copy for some reason. It's imparative that it does, because we want to be able to put the new drive in and go so as to have minimal down time on the machine if a hard drive did fail. We ordered a device that is supposed to make direct copies of any hard drive no matter what's on it. We'll see what luck we have with that, thanks for your help.
