Has anyone installed Vista from scratch? Was it bad?

I read somewhere or other that installing vista from scratch is long, difficult, and painful? Is it really that bad? And my friend built a PC a year ago, and he constantly has issues... Could this be because he did something wrong while installing vista?

Basically I want to know if a novice to computer building (me) could figure it out and not have lots of issues because I clicked the wrong box for something or other. BTW, I would buy a legitimate copy of it. And which one is best?

No it's not really that bad; it's very simply. It's mostly a lot of waiting. I like installing it better than XP actually. It wouldn't be easier to recommend you a copy if you told us your computer specs.

Installing the new version isn't any more difficult then throwing XP on once you are familiar with how to install any version on a hard drive you have set as the default on a one OS system or have configured a dual boot with a little more experience with OSs. But Vista wasn't out a year ago in October 2006. The new version came out at the end of January of this year.

Simply installing one version or another isn't the cause for problems if the hardwares were never set up properly to begin with. The OS, drivers, and programs are the last stage besides the eventual updates you download for hardwares and programs alike. The installer for Windows itself will see onscreen instructions and prompts once you know where you want Windows to go on.
