Has my laptop truly kicked the dust?

Hey all,

I was doing some work this evening on my Packard Bell EasyNote AJ300 when suddenly it just went dead. Tried turning it on numerous times but no luck.

Also, I tried taking the battery and power cable out and holding down the power button for long periods of time but this seem to make no difference.

Has it truly had it or is the battery just screwed perhaps? Not sure I want to try buying a new battery if that proves no good.

Any ideas/thoughts appreciated.
 
Not sure if this will work on your laptop, but if it were a battery issue, you should be able to plug in your laptop with the battery in and try to turn it on. If it turns on, it's a battery issue, if not, than probably a laptop issue

Thanks for the responses.

I haven't noticed any problems with the charging.

How long do batteries usually last? I've had the laptop for around 5 years.

I've plugged it in, left it on charge but still dead as a doornail.

When I do press the power button for a while with the battery out and then put the battery in and turn it on there is a slight blink on the power light but, apart from that, zilch.
 
Most batteries are good for so many charges, I can guarantee you after five years you battery is done. On the Dell I had for five years that did the same thing and it just needed a new charging cable.
 
most stores that sell computers will have them and advertise which manufactures they will work on, I got mine from best buy.
 
Thanks but here in the UK they seem a little hard to get hold of especially as they laptop is over 5 years old.

I've tried looking at various sites dedicated to laptop batteries and no luck.

Also, seems the prices are generally between £30 and £100 just for a battery which may prove not to be at fault. Damn - I'm starting to think it might just be better to buy a used PC?

Okay, guess what...

Battery was recalled by the manufacturer (Packard Bell) as it was potentially defective and dangerous!

Went though the recall procedure on the website and I will be sent a replacement battery. According to their site I should still be able to use the laptop with the battery removed (just as long as the power supply is plugged in)! Tried it and still the laptop is dead as a dodo!

Is it RIP for that laptop?
