hauppage wintv hvr 1600 not looking right

hello all. im using a tv tuner in my htpc, not the specs in my sig, (haupage hvr1600). im only using it for the analog signal. when i turn my tv onto the tv input the picture is clear. when i turn my tv to the pc input and use the card for tv, the picture isnt even close to the clarity. both are using the same cable line. it seems like the tv processes the signal much better than the tuner card. its really grainy, and when i record tv, it comes out real poor no matter what setting i have the recorder at. does anyone know of some tweaks i can do to get the picture close to how my tv is?...thank you

Many capture cards require quite a strong signal going in. If you're splitting the signal to begin with, I wouldn't be surprised if you're weakening the signal too much. I had similar problems with my WinTV PVR-150. My only real suggestion is to invest in some signal amp or maybe try the card closer to input from the cable box (IE from outside)
 
thats the problem i had with my tv. signal was terrible. instead of branching off as needed all the way to the tv because of suspected signal drop i went back to where the cable came in the house. ran a dedicated line all by itself to the tv and the signal came in perfect.
