my geforce 7600 gt has a 'plug in ' on it to connect to an additional card. That would have to be a pci card right? I checked the instructs but I dont see info regarding this.

If you're talking about the gold pinned piece in the middle of the picture, that the SLI connector. That's used to utilize two videocards at the same time.
 
My motherboard is not sli ready. does this mean i should have gotten an sli video card instead of useing the one sli express slot that i have?
 
if you want to run two cards in SLI you will need a Motherboard with 2X Pci-e slots.

if your mobo only has one then you will not be able to SLI.

They dont have special versions for SLI, most of the 6 series, and all of the 7 and 8 series are SLI-capable, but you need an SLI motherboard with two PCI-E x16 slots.
 
I understand but is it ok to keep the ge force 7600 card i have now in that one express slot. like will it function ok as one? It seems to
