Have 2.13 GHZ Intel Core i3 Is an AMD Athlon II X4 2.9 GHz Faster Loading Internet?

Hopefully someone can help me here. I currently have DSL Service & Before that I was on Roadrunner Highest Speed. I never had any problems with my downloads/uploads but it seems that the internet loading is always slow in that its not instant and can take 2-4 seconds which isn't good enough for me at times.

My current computer is a 2.13 GHZ Intel Core i3 with 8GB RAM. My friends computer is an an AMD Athlon II X4 2.9 GHz and seems to loaf alot faster. Does that mean that if I bought a computer with more than 2.13 GHZ it would load noticeably faster?

Unless I am missing some fundamental of computer science, or some viral impact, or what could be one of a million things? Your CPU is ahead of your RAM in capabilities (ability to process/handle). Ahead of HDD/ODD/USB. I hardly see how network, Internet could be a CPU issue? To be extreme, if you had dial up would you suspect CPU or Dial up. Yea the connection is the bottleneck. My 1st PIII 450MHz can more than handle what can be thrown at it.

You likely have a long ping from what you say. 2-4/s seems long but test. There is no way with an i3 the CPU or the memory or the HDD or anything is the issue. Call your ISP.

lol I'm on one of my other computers, my 6 year old HP Compaq with an AMD Sempron Socket 939 1.8 GHz processor. Loads pages instantly. With Internet Explorer 8 I believe there is something else in the mix here. Are you using wireless or wired networking? Which ever you are using, update the card to the latest drivers. Also, do an internet speed test on each computer, and report the results.

To answer your question, no. I do not believe that a faster processor will load internet pages noticeably faster.

Another thing that could help is a better browser. If you're using IE, then you're pretty much using the slowest browser you can get (Maybe netscape? Lol) Try getting Google Chrome or Opera if you don't already have them. The speed increase alone is worth the upgrade, but they offer better security and more features as well.

I tried Chrome and did think it was faster. But I think OP should try and resolve the issue before trying to Band-Aid the symptoms.

Funny I tried Chrome and think faster but I am still on IE, old habits die hard.

Your good. its fast enough unless your gaming. As suggested call your provider and consider higher speed. You just pay a bit more.

lol internet browser fanboys. Always degrading the forums, never helping with the problem at hand.

you'll be fine with the cpu you have, it sounds like the computer has just slowed down due to usage over time, beside a core i3 is around on par with the athlon if i remember correctly.

Have you tried scanning for virus's, spyware etc and hav you tried cleaner?

it will clean out all the junk and usually speed it up quickly (assuming you have alot of junk accumlated)

^Definitely run Speedtest. It will confirm if you have an ISP or network-related problem or not.

^CCleaner is epicness. :) As this post also said, you might also want to run a virus scan, if you don't do one regularly.

Your CPU has very little to do with how fast your internet loads. In my experience, the biggest factors are your hard drive and connection speed. With a faster hard drive, the browser will open faster. With a faster connection speed, pages will load faster. Anything better than a Pentium III or Athlon XP shouldn't pose a bottleneck for basic internet tasks. ;)

That's a little much I think. I wasn't saying his browser was his problem or that he shouldn't use whatever it is he's using, nor did I tote one browser in particular as superior. Even the most recent version of IE is pretty good, but in general I've heard of it being slower and having more problems than other browsers. Not to mention the other members in the thread had already said everything I would have said, so I figured I'd rather add to the thread than just parrot them. :P

In all seriousness if this was even true the virus scan guys and driver cleaner guys kick our browser guys butt's. At least in so far as visibility/posts.;)

Hang in there brother. Thank God we are not graded on this.:D

I think op has too many programs run in the background and too many addons in the browser, or he may have virus in the computer.

I know what you mean. I just try to share what I know (Or at least what I think I know :P) with people who may or may not benefit from it. I'm under no delusions that I'm wrong at least some of the time, if not a lot more, but I make an effort to try and give accurate info.

On that note, the browser you use is your first line of defense, and there is more to security than just a solid anti-virus. Lookup the Pwn2Own competitions and you'll see what I mean. :) They basically get advanced computer users to take over laptops running different set ups. The first one to take control of one of the machines wins it. I believe in 2009 the competition was won when someone exploited Safari and OS X's security holes and nabbed the machine in something ridiculous like 4 seconds. IE on windows wasn't far behind. Its been a while since I read this so I'm a little fuzzy on the details, but the gist of it is right. Nobody got through Chrome after. Just one example though, I doubt many people have to worry about someone trying to gain access to their computer specifically, but it makes you think.

As O/P Let Me Clarify As Far As Programs Running in Background Please Help

I have Windows 7, DSL fastest speed, 8GB Ram, use Firefox and have plenty of room on my 280 GB Hard Drive. It's probably closer to 2 seconds in the loading not 4 but that still seems too long for me. THe downloading speed & uploading speed are fine which I regularly test (with DSL its around 5200 downloading) and I regularly test/remove spyware/aware/viruses, clean the cache, check my registry, etc. I also use MSCONFIG and have only 2 programs checked in the start up but if there are programs for Windows 7 I should have stopped (such as Apple Mobile Device which is running) for Windows 7 please let me know which they are

Thanks for your input

Sounds like your computer's significantly cleaner than mine. :) When you say 2-4 seconds, are you talking about the time it takes for the browser to open? If so, then that's almost completely dependent on the hard drive. Do you defragment often?

Cleaning tmp/cookies/cashe will help if it hasn't been done.
If your looking for a faster browser, here's a good one.
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/
And you can use faster ram for cashe.
Move Firefox Disk Cache To Memory (RAM)

Open up firefox. Type about:config in the address bar and press enter.

1) Set ‘browser.cache.disk.enable’ to false
2) Set ‘browser.cache.memory.enable’ to true.
3) Create ‘browser.cache.memory.capacity’ if it doesn’t exist.
4) Set ‘browser.cache.memory.capacity’ to the desired size of the RAM cache in kilobytes.

I think he is talking about the website response time. He wants instant open, two second isnot that bad. It also depend on the website server tracfic, Try some known fast website to see if it is really your computer slow.

Yeah I really wouldn't complain about 2 seconds loading. There are a lot of factors to consider like traffic in your area and how long it takes to ping certain sites. You may be able to call your ISP and ask them what's up, but I don't think it's really a significant issue.

Benny Boy What Size Are You Referring to (What is desired size?)

Thanks for your settings. I'm a bit unclear what the desired size should be. Can you please give me a number or clarift this for me. Thanks

Set ‘browser.cache.memory.capacity’ to the desired size of the RAM cache in kilobytes.
