my computer has been acting weird lately i uninstalled battlefield vietnam redux and i can still play it and stuff wont install right and i get error messgages all the time so i am going to format and reinstall windows.

but when you format the harddrive and reinstall windows do you need to reinstall the drivers for the videocard soundcard etc. and does it take long to do it at all or is it a fast easy process or a long fast easy process or the oppostie

you actually dont need to, windows has its own drivers for them, but it is best to get the latest updates from the mfg's website. It takes me about 20 min or so to download and install the updates for my video card and sound card. The average time for me to re-install windows, run microsoft update, download all the drivers, download/install all my programs and games back takes a few hours, so dont expect it all to be done in 30 minutes. You also need to configure windows and your game options again.

so it should only take me 3-4 hours to do everyting cause i have most of my games on cd or dvd

I assume you are talking about re-installing WINDOWS XP.

Formatting the hard-disk can be a two stage process, depending on if you also want to RE-PARTITION. FORMATTING the drive only re-creates the file-system used by XP. Any old files that were on the system can easily be un-formatted. So any VIRUS/SPAM can still linger on. For complete safety, you may want to ZERO the drive first, which can take ages.

I've prepared a text-file, out-ling the complete process, E-mail [email protected],
if any one needs a copy.

My new Computer, if quick formatted not standard formatted could probably do that aswell, when it was installing windows the time seemed to jump down very quickly

Depending on your hardrive size and if you do a proper format not a quick one maybe 2 hours, it shouldnt take any longer then 2 hours

It took me six hours, but then again i installed ll my games and stuff, on a 24x CD-rom drive, just one gamne of my biggest one, took an hour haha.

I'd suggest fixing up your grammar and spelling a bit, I read that about 6 times before understanding it lol

It only took me 2 times to understand what he wrote... His games are so large that it takes him a quarter of a day to reinstall all of them with his 24x CD drive....

Anything else you need me to decipher for you ZEROX?

:D

..oh and AMD64, you need to reinstall the drivers... If you bought a pre-built machine you should have all the necessary drivers on a single or a few disks.. if you built your own you should have a pile of disks
