I have a virus problem in my antivirus software- Avast. Whenever I click on it the computer restarts. I downloaded AVG, another antivirus, but this I dont think can get into avast. Should I uninstall Avast and Spybot, which also restarts when i click on it and just use AVG?

Also I was thinking of reformatting my computer. Taking everything off and then putting it back on again. How do you do this?

Formatting your hard drive is done using a Windows XP cd(if you plan to install Windows XP).
Set your BIOS to boot from cd-rom,boot from the Windows cd,follow the instructions and re-install Windows.
Make a backup of your important files first. :)
Good luck

Id say that your best bet would be just to reformat. Its pretty simple. just put in the windows OS disk and boot to the cd. Once into the menu just follow the steps to delete the old partition and then create a new one. Then just install the OS on the drive. Just make sure you back up the information you want to keep. But id say if your gonna do anything do it soon bc if it is a virus you dont want to let it just sit.

Edit: Alright well starcab beat me to it but yeah id say formatting is the best option

I uninstalled Avast and spybot and will scan my computer with AVG. Maybe that will be sufficent? We will see. My XP was a copy from a friend. If I use another one can I buy a second hand one from Amazon? I am in the Far East so cant get an English version from a shop probably.
