Have i hit my maximum OC?

I have been slowly over clocking my system, by increasing the MHz in my BIOS.
I now have it at 2.17 G Hz and it seems pretty stable, played a lot of COD 2 and BF 2 with no problems for a lot of today.
I first test the over clock in a program called super step that comes with my motherboard - it can increase clock's and voltages but then returns to its normal clocks and voltages when the program is closed.
I went slowly up and got to 221 i upped the clock another mhz to 222 and the computer instantly crashes and restarts, i was expecting this ( but not at such a low clock)
So i let the system restart and tried the same again but firstly upping the cpu voltage by 0.1, i then set the clock to 222 and the system crashed and restarted again, but took 3 seconds longer than before.

I am wondering whether this is my top over clock [2.21 ghz] or i have to increase the voltage some more. However im not too sure i can change the voltages in my BIOS and i don't want to damage my cpu.

If this is the case how much would i have to increase the voltage going to the cpu for 2.22 ghz and above to be stable, is this the only voltage i need to change, how much damage is this going to be on my cpu in the long/short term?

Thanks

I only overclock through the bios, but you might need to set your HT back to X4 and lower your ram to 333 from 400, when you raise the FSB your raising the HT and memory

sorry - but i don't know how to lower my ram any help?
I checked my BIOS and i can change the HT to x4 if i want and i can raise my cpu core voltage by 20 mV a time

There shoud be a memory setting listed as 100-133-166-200 or 200-266-333-400, most of the time its set to Auto by default.

Ok, so i have set my HT to x4 rather than auto and i think i have lowered my RAM.
Instead of my BIOS saying 200-266-33-400 it said 100-133-166-200- and then went up to 250 - i set it at 166

what now? shall i try overlocking to 2.22 ghz again?

EDIT - Great i have managed to get to 2.3 GHz by changing the ram and HT like you suggested.

EDIT - Wehay now at 2.4 GHz , temps look no different either

I have managed to get up to 2.68 GHz with my super step program quite stable - at 2.7 computer crashes again. Am i correct in thinking that 2.68 is the furthest it will go - or could it go even further?

You running the cpu on stock voltage, if not you could bump it up alittle. Just keep a eye on the temps. Thats a pretty good overclock for a X2 3800

Yeh its on stock voltages - although a kicked the ram up one notch - i ran the oct test at 2.55 ghz and got errors at 8 minutes and then ran the test at 2.5 ghz and got errors after 12 minutes, however windows seems to be stable along with playing COD 2 should i worry mutch?
I am pleased with the amount i have over clocked so far
