Have to manually connect to wireless on startup?

hi guys, i was wondering if its a common deal to have to manually connect to a wireless access point every time i turn on my computer? i assumed it would automatically connect to my chosen router but this is not the case.

when i turn on the computer, the icon on the bottom right goes from an x, to an exclamation sign, to the two computers flashing back and forth, to the symbol that means i'm connected to the internet. a few seconds later it goes back to the X with the two computers behind it and then it begins switching back and forth between a wireless signal symbol and the X'ed computers.

i've no idea what its doing this whole time but it is annoying setting up my connection every time...

under the wireless settings you have to make the wireless point the automatic one and then it should connect on login.

it does, i actually have internet for about ten seconds before it disconnects and i have to manually reconnect it.
