there is no way in hell, well except maybe for micorsoft or governments, that someone will need all that storage space, its crazy :P

Well, I have heard of a 100TB Oracle database before... so at some point I imagine a 1000TB database could be a reality.. and I could see NASA's JPL or a Cost Distribution Report (CDR) System needing a lot of storage space... but it is hard to imagine every home computer having a 1.0 petabyte hard drive.... but didnt we think the same thing about a terabyte not too many years ago?

According to this Production will begin 4 to 5 years from now at a price of approximatly $750 US.
Somehow I doubt this will be the full 1.2PB disks, rather a smaller version. Also, if it's $750 for the media, I wonder how much the drive will cost!

You know, with all the technological advancements and such, I believe the future of computing will be a virtual 3D experience. Windows itself may become a 3D operating system, and flat screens will be obsolete. More complicated programs, and ultra high quality media will probably utalize the space quite a bit.

bleh, i am only excited cus other harddrives will be cheaper... like one terabyte will b cheap when that comes out... i only need like 100GB of HD space personally... im sure some of you have alot more stuff that me...

I remember when I had a 7GB hard drive and I never thought I would need that much space...

then I started being interested in 3D rendering and started recording TV shows because of my busy schedule and out of 500GB I have almost 300GB used... and thats nothing compared with other people I know on this forum...

I agree, windows actually is already starting to become a 3D operating system...

$750 for that amount of space.. wow. I'll certainly be buying that. Storage for life!
