been using linux since 1998, posting on this forum right now on my linux box, open suse 10.1. I only use windows to play games and some audio/video ripping. Everything else i use linux or a mac for.

Same, been using it for a few months now.

Im stuck on mandriva at the moment but want to go back to Kubuntu.
 
I am a penguinista as well!...see sig.

I literally just use windows just for games...so my windows box gets little use..everything else I do, I do with Kubuntu:D
 
ubuntu is a great end user OS, but I wouldn't like it on a business enterprise level. I prefer to use distros that do not use the /etc/sudoers to authenticate root.

Otherwise ubuntu is a great OS and debian is a great distro. I like debian, suse, tried gentoo but lost interest after a bit. I also use a lot of live distro linux apps for work and work related things.
 
i really want to start using it! i dont have the time right now but when i do i will for sure try it! its good for 3d apps like blender! so ive heard!
 
once you type in sudo (and a command), your root for rest of the session, untul you close the termianal. This obviously defeats the entire sudo only part, but still, it's just the same.
 
at the moment i dont have windows installed (im waiting for reinstall disks to be sent) i am using ubuntu

yes but you are missing my point, if your distro is one that uses the /etc/sudoers directory to authenticate root, all one needs is admin privlidges, not root privlidges. Say for example my user name is tlarkin and my password is pword. I could sudo all day long and use my password via /etc/sudoers. Where as in other distros the sudo command would require the root password, which is set to something different than a user's password and the root user is completely different. Some commands will not run with sudo, you must have a session going as root user to run them.

It is more secure.
 
Yes i have Ubuntu dual booted with Xp.

only on occasion i use linux though...I do prefer windows because of its simplicity.

And i play alot of games also.
 
I've been in linux starting 2006.ive been thru mainly all distro exept gentoo and slackware !!!..mainly using suse 10.1 (now downloading 10.2)
