having a generic trojan pop up in windows temp every couple of hours

You are most likely going to a bad website or possible a crappy program installed. Can you list the exact file and directory path?

Its been over a decade since this last happened, I was pretty off my tits last night, that must be he reason, damnit. Its been several web threats and a few files in the temp folder called tmp0000004. etc etc

I should probably just clean all my temp files. unfoirtuantely bitdefender doesnt apopear to have a boot tiome scan either and itll take 40 hours at its current rate anyway.

Btw whats the limiting factor in av scans, hard-drive speed or cpu?

A full system scan depends on the hard drive and how many actual files you have. Run Ccleaner and it will remove all the temporary internet and system files. You might want to run a scan with Malwarebytes.
