Having internet sound problems... PLZ HELP

I have a xp desktop and I get no sound on any internet sites... and it seems i have no audio device and no sound controls, yet this just occured last month after a reboot before that it was working fine.... but i do have sound from wmp???? PLZ HELP i dont know much about audio devices and codecs

...it's a bit old, but seems to have solved the same type of problem for people at the time.
