having problems with computer startup

problem with old computer
Have not used my old computer pentium3 with windows XP and today while turning it on this showed up - please enter setup menu to set clock ratio for a CPU being plugged.

I know how to get into the setup but can not find how to fix problem or what it means - I did set the clock/time/date and have not added nothing new.
 
Sounds like the battery on the board has grown weak and near doa. You are simply losing cmos information like time and date as well as the setting changes you originally made from factory.

Those are commonly found for about $2-$3 in a retail store's watch or electronics dept. in the battery racks and are coin sized lithium batteries. You will need to take the battery along with you for matching it up. Most now see the 2032 number like DL2032 for Duracell or CR2032, CL2032 for Eveready, and so forth.
 
It is a round one, on the motherboard.

It is close to the PCI slots (White Slots) but it is empty.

That battery needs to be replaced.

The battery won't be at the same place as the one, above, but that is what your looking for.
 
If you have the board's manual that will show where it is located and how easy it is to remove it from the holder. That will also list the replacement number in case different from the typical 2032 number now seen on most boards.

Stores like Walmart, CVS, Radio Shack, and most large battery racks in retail stores will see a bunch of that type of battery since they are common for watches and calculators.
