having trouble starting my comp

I can't seem to start my computer correctly. I can not determine if it's a power issue, or if something isn't connected correctly. All my fans seem to be running fine. This is driving me absolutely nuts. I followed everything by the book on putting this puppy together. Here are my current specs.

Well I noticed I as missing one plug that went straight into the mobo. Now it starts a bit better, the screen actually turns on, lasts longer, but ends up just shutting down. Could this be the power supply? I don't think the processor is getting too hot. the fan is snug and fit. I switched out the ram sticks and it made no difference. Am I missing something here?

One note is that the processor did not come with a tube of thermal paste, but the fan already had some on there. Could this problem be due to not enough paste therefor overheating the processor?

It actually depends on what kind of Power supply you have, because if you have a crappy 450watt psu than it could be that and the amount of thermal compound that is preset on your heatsink should be sufficient enough for the processor as long as you don't plan to overclock it.

Yeah, I honestly don't plan on over clocking. This is just a decent PC I want to play games. I don't really care for running everything at high resolution. What kind of power supply would you recommend for the type of set up I currently have?

Well, I purchase a new PSU. It's a PC system power supply 650 watt. It seems to load a bit better, but it ends up shutting off like it did before. I am at a loss! I can not figure out what the issue is for the life of me. Could it be a bad mobo? How can you tell if it's a bad mobo, bad ram, or bad anything for that matter. Just so I know what to ship back. Thanks for the help!

450W only? Case PSU?

Yes this was the first PSU I had used. It was a cheap 450 watt PSU that came with my friend's old computer tower.

Tried testing the OCZ Random Access Memory modules one at a time yet?

Yes. I tested each stick and still received the same results. I am going to borrow and extra stick from my friend as see if I get the same results.

So far, still the same issue. I would rather not have to take it in to the local computer repair shop and have them tell me "It's a faulty this or that" for $70.
