Hi, I have currently purchased a Geforce 7950 to replace my current 6600. ( This is the card I got: http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/prodd...35&catid=20397&logon=&langid=EN&test_cookie=1 ) I have alrdy installed the card, and I used this Pci-e power adapter thing that came with it ( it takes two four pin power connectors and the wires from those run into a pci-e adapter). Now here is the problem, When I start my computer it starts up normal, it shows all the bios info blaaa blaa blaa, But after the bios info just when the windows xp loading screen appears my monitor goes off ( I dont even get to see the boot screen for a second.)Even though I cannot see anything I know it is booting to the Operating system. What can I do???? I have already tried ; Uninstalling my old videocard drivers, and setting the display settings to lowest ( Lowest rez and 16 bit colour) Please any help would be greatly needed. Thank you.

Running an older model lcd monitor? As of late the older 17" now abouit 3yrs. old will do the exact same when first starting the system up. At first the screen went black after the first splash and personal settings screens were already seen and no desktop.

Now the screen goes dark sooner showing it's time here for a new lcd. If you are running an lcd that has now reached it's life expectancy that would be thought. The hibernation/standby mode is slipping up.

How to get a failing monitor to stay active? I have to repeatedly turn the lcd here off and then back on to see it go dark in about 15 seconds where I repeat the process several times. Once it stays on for a good minute or so then it remains on until the next day when starting the system up again. If you are using the same monitor for a few years this is one thing yoiu may be running into there.

I am using an Lcd moniter but its not that old, I got it in aug. Sorry I dont mean off, but it goes into a kinda stand by. When it hits the xp boot screen it says "No Signal" and then does that stand by thing

You may be seeing the same thing I am running into on the older monitor here needing factory service if the monitor turns out to be the problem. The description of what you are seeing there fits the bill while this one has a few years of use added to that.

Here I now have to keep hitting the power button and seeing the display return for so many seconds and then repeat the turn off - turn back on process until the displays remains on. Give that a try and see if the monitor is the item you need to see replaced or repaired. It may have a defect in the standby circuit.

Thanks for your help, Im sorry it took me so long to reply, I had to rebuild my pc. Turns out my Pci-e port was working all that good, It would only detect my 6600 and the card had to be at a specific angle :/, so I got a newish mobo and it works now. Thx for your help, I also learned something about LCD monitors thank you :P

Well I'm glad to see you will see a good start of the new year with things working well. Here I will be looking for a replacement lcd soon enough since the one is "retiring" soon I guess! :P
