hd 2900 xt

There are benchmarks out. From what iv seen, the ATi is better with DX10 then the 8800GTX, but the 8800GTX is alot better at DX9. But since neither card has good drivers for it, theres really no way to tell until they have been perfected.

And by that time, new video cards will come out lol.

However, Nvidia's had a lot more time to fine tune their drivers which may be a cause for the differences in performance. Since the HD2900XT's price is nearly identical to the 8800GTS, I think it's more fair to compare the two. They are pretty similar in performance, however, in some games, the Ati card just flat out sucks due to driver flaws.

From the benchmarks i've seen, overall the HD2900XT is a bit better then the 8800GTS, but not as good as the 8800GTX. Although both cards perform better then each other in certain games.

I wouldn't worry about the 2900XT being better, the 8950GX2 will put it back in its place. The 8900's are coming after Q3, from what I have heard.

The 2900XT is designed to compete with the 8800GTS, not an 89XX series card... I'm not upgrading for a while anyway so I can see what the cards are like when the drivers are fine-tuned.

ATI card performed slightly better in Call of Juarez because it produced a worser image quality

And there is another DX10 game called Lost Planet, and in it that game nvidia performed much better.

HD2900XT is about $100 more expensive

Im sure you know Maroon, but the reason for the bad image quality and poor performance is the driver. I forget which site, but one of them tried the new Alpha driver and the image quality was great, and it got several more FPS.
