Hd 3850 1gb

HD3850 1GB performs almost exactly as HD3850 512MB, because 256bit bus can't take the advantage of 1GB

I don't recommend crossfire since many games are not optimized for it. Just get one good GPU like GTS 512

Agreed. Get yourself a 8800GTS 512mb, forget the crossfire/sli rubbish. Its a gimmick more often than not, especially at lower resolutions.

I love my dual 3870's. Two 3870's seem to have a slight edge on a 3870X2. But the 3870X2 leaves room for upgrading if you own a crossfire motherboard.

Crossfire scales better than SLI. Its definitely not a "gimmick". I got nearly a 80-90% increase in performance from a single to dual cards. However, your right, you get the biggest improvements at larger resolutions.
