i ordered 2x2GB of RAM and a 1T HD off of Newegg. i got them and when i tried to plug the into my computer, they wouldn't fit. the pins were way different on the new RAM than the older ones. the computers im rebuilding are pretty old, so it might just be out dated plugs. If thats the case what can i do about it? OR do i just need to return the RAM and HD and excange it for different kinds?

thanks guys and girls!

ps this is the first computer ive built so im a huge newb

You would need the specific type of RAM for the computers. Tell us the mobo model or the computer model and we can tell you what you need.

It might be easier to just tell us what brand and model of computer you have if its store bought like Hp, dell, compaq, gateway....

the computer was built for someone a while ago, so i dont know the brand, but not sure if this is what your talking about but one thing on it was P4MDPT

thanks bkribbs! big help :D
one question why did the 1T HD i found cost less that the 500GB one that is compattible with my system? it dosnt make sense to me but there has to be an explanation

Because your motherboard has old technology(IDE) compared to new technology (SATA). As newer technology comes in the price for old technology goes up. More people want newer than older so they don't make as many older parts which drives up the cost.
