a while ago my brother accidentally kicked the front of my Dell Optiplex, cause it was on the floor, and he popped the fron cover off, but that went on fine, anyway, now at the Dell screen, it takes like 25-30 secs. 3 get passed that, then i get a message, like press F1 2 continue, and F10 2 enter setup or something, is my HD bad?

I doubt it, because when it says "Strike F1 To Continue" it is still in BIOS. Usually when it tells you to press F1, a piece of hardware that BIOS says you have isn't connected.

You may want to open the case (touch metal on the case before touching anything electronic to dissapate the static electricity) and make sure the flat IDE ribbon cables are connected tightly to both the hard drive(s?) and the motherboard. It is common for them to come loose. This would throw the disk not found error.

EDIT: Also check the power connectors on the drives as well.

^if that dont work, try changing the ide cable

Does the drive still spin up when the computer is turned on? My next guess would lead to something mechanical such as the heads being stuck in a certain position in the drive.

yea i think it's still spinning, im not sure. i won a 20GB HD off Ebay about a week ago, it's identical 2 the 1 i got it there right now.

i never changed the jumpers on the HD before.

I don't know what the problem would be, then. I can only tell you to open up the case and press as hard as you can on the IDE (or SATA) cables to make sure that they are securely in. I know with my computer, if i'm doing work on it, sometimes I'll start it up and it'll tell me my slave drive is missing, so I'll open the case again, push on the IDE connector, reboot, and everything will work just fine.

their as far as they can go, i already won a HD off Ebay, like i said earlyier, this HD in there now is ffrom '98, i wouldnt be suprised if it just went.

it says: "Primary hard disk drive 1 not found."
COuld be the cabling, a messed up drive or a messed up controller.

Did it work before your brother kicked it?

Could be, you can always try it in a different comp to be sure :)
