I have exchanged the hard disk and the motherboard

The hard drive is unformatted

please help!!!!!

You could have a bad data cable or not plugged in fully. Any drive should automatically be listed during the initial post tests provided everything is correct and both drives and cables are. You should be seeing either a primary or secondary master or slave listed depending on the port the drive is plugged into.

Lately I had a sata dvd drive here refusing to boot off of a Windows or other disk to find the red data cable that came with the board was useless. It's not as common as seen with the flat ribbin ide type but you can get a bad sata cable every so often now that more and more are going with sata drives.

please tell me you are not using both the SATA and Molex type power connectors at once?

if so youve fried it

Did you try another Sata cable? To add to what jdbennet said, you did plug in the power connector? You would not believe how many people trying to install sata drives forget to plug in the power cable or think the sata cable powers it to.

If you plugged in the 15pin wide power plug? but forgot the 7pin data cable you certainly won't see a drive listed either. Until the drive is later partitioned and formatted it won't appear as a logical drive in Windows once the power/data cable situation is figured out and you know both cables and the drive are good.

well I have checked all of the connections and it still isn't showing up I also went to best buy and had them test it and they could see it so it isn't fried.

A bad data cable is the most likely reason since they found the drive was good. You can have everything in properly and a bad cable will gum up the works.

The dvd burner here for some time couldn't see cd-rws or dvd-rws while being ready to burn cd-rs and dvd-rs/+rs without hesitation. When having problems booting with the Vista dvd, GParted, or a live distro a new cable saw everything corrected.

Now the rewritables are ready for use as well as the drive reading disks when booting from them without hesitation. I originally ordered some longer orange colored cables to have onhand and them seem better made then the typical red colored included with boards and drives bought retail. Unfortunately I don't have a link for that particular vendor presently.
