HD not showing up???

I installed a secondary 80gig Western Digital HD into my brother's Compaq computer yesterday (running xp)...but when i go to My Computer, it doesn't show the drive...if i go to device manager then to disk drives it shows the main C drive and then shows the 80gig i installed so i know the computer sees it, when i click on it and go to properties, under status it shows Not Initialized...can't figure out how to get it to recognize and list the drive under my computer.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled it, changed out the cable on it and everything but still can't figure it out. I went to the System Bios but on the Compaq it is set up different, doesn't show anything like an Auto-Detect for the drives or anything, just boot sequence and stuff...any ideas on what i need to do?
 
if the computer is actually detecting the drive but not showing it means that you have most likely not formatted the drive.
boot your system with the xp disk in the drive and go through the normal process and you'll get to the bit where you can format the drive you have fitted.
 
he doesn't have the XP disk...i couldn't figure out how to format the disk if it doesn't assign a drive letter to it or anything...had me up for about 3 hours last night trying to figure it out...still no luck...:mad:
 
have not...how do i get to the disk manager?

Right click 'My Computer' >> Manage >> Disk Management

or

Control panel >> Admin Tools >> Computer Management >> Disk Management
