I seem to have some kind of turbo on my HD4670 that will underclock it when light use is detected from 750Mhz to 600Mhz, is there anyway to disable this?
It is the HIS Hd4670 with 750 clock speed and 800 memory and i have not installed anything from the cd only the catalyst drivers and directx, is there a chance this could be a bios option?

Actaully its amd again trying to save power, i'm getting a bit tired of this now, how do i disable ati powerplay using the new catalyst cc?
 
Why would you want to disable this? Your card will run hotter in 2D mode, and so long as it kicks back up to its full speed when load is put on it, there's no reason to disable it.
 
isnt this going to cause perform performance drop when the gpu is detected as not being used alot?
Also i really dont like not have full control over my system, if i dont want powerplay on i should be able to disable it.

If it runs considerably hotter then i will turn it back on but i still want to know how to disable it.
 
The only way around it is to create a custom profile for 2D mode. It will not cause a performance drop because as soon as any strain is put on the GPU it will return to its stock clocks. This is a feature present on basically every modern graphics card available, my GTX 570 is at 51/101/135 right now, but as soon as I run any kind of graphically demanding program it will return to the settings I have it overclocked to (790/1580/1995). If you really want to change it, create a custom profile in CCC (Doesn't matter what it is.) and navigate to it in your C:\Users\Documents\ATI (Or some similar location, I don't have an ATI card anymore so I can't check, google should give you that answer though.) You need to manually change the 2D clocks to what they would be under load by editing the profile in notepad. Save it and make sure its marked as read only when you're finished editing it. Load the profile in CCC and it should bring your clocks up to where you want them. Again, I really don't recommend this and there's a reason there isn't an easy way to turn it off.
 
well it has casued performance issues in the past on 4xxx series and i have no idea if they fixed by now, they prob have, but incase i see performance issues i want to know how to disable it and in theory like cool n quiet it still takes a moment to up the speed and that moment could cause lag but they prob sorted out that theory in a driver update a while ago as i havent noticed any drop, i just noticed that it wasnt running at the default speed and i like to be in full control of my system
Its prob different on nvidia as i didnt need to create a 2d profile as there doesnt seem to be a separation between the profiles for 2D or 3D.
I created a new preset in ccc and edited the xml file using word pad to specify that i didnt want the core to drop below 750 (default) and now the core stays constantly at the default 750 and does not drop, i have another profile with it enabled.

If anyone needs to know how to do it i can pm.
 
No there isn't an option to create a 2D profile, like I said, there's no real option to change your 2D clocks. Either way, glad you figured it out and are happy with it.
