HD4870/4850 Xfire

Hey guys, its time for me to upgrade from a single HD4850. I was wondering what would be a better idea. Adding a HD4870 1GB and xfiring my two cards or buying a GTX 260 216? I will be gaming @ 1920x1080 resolution and a GTX 280 is out of my willing price range. Ive seen that the GTX 260 is a little faster than the HD4870 (clearly in Crysis), but a Xfire combo would probably be better. Im just wondering if I would have compatibility issues and if micro stuttering would really be a problem. Some games I play are Fallout 3, TF2, FEAR 2, Mass Effect, Crysis. I appreciate any help, im trying to get a push to one side or the other so I can just finally order a card and play UT3 maxed again. Thanks in advance.

is that 2 gtx 260s? is there a set release date?

No, its actually basically a GTX 285 with a 448bit bus instead of 512bit bus, and less rops but the full 240 shaders of the GTX 285. The 896mb version is already out, the 1792mb version will be comming out sometime soon, which is what i would recommend since you are playing at a pretty high res.

ah ok, well I am going to try the HD4870 for now and see how that works. I can always sell it to a friend if I need something better. Thanks for the help.

This is my suggestion. Getting a 4870 and CF-ing it with a 4850 will effectively be the same as having two 4850 in CF. You don't really get much of the benefit of the faster card.

I forgot to mention that I will be trying to sell my HD 4850. Until I do that I wanted to have the HD4870 so that when I finally do get rid of my 4850, I can just put another 4870 in. That WAS my plan initially but now im rethinking it. By the time an hd4850 xfire setup would be obsolete, so would a 4870 xfire setup. Maybe I should just get another hd4850 and save some money :). I was wondering if 2 HD4850s would have enough memory to run games at 1920x1080. Does the task get divided by the 2 cards so they have 1GB of memory together or does it work some other way? Thanks for the replies thus far.
Edit:
Is there a visual difference between HDMI and DVI? There is this HD4850 with an HDMI slot and my monitor is 1080p. Would there be any difference in sharpness?

Yeah I wouldn't go for the GTX 260 over the 4870. Their performances are much too close to worry about, especially considering you have a Crossfire board. The 4890 would be a good choice but only if it's in your budget. The 4870's been out for a while, I think I've seen it as low as $150.
