HD4870 -vs- HD4890 -vs- GTX260 216

I'm looking to purchase a video card for around about the $200 - $250 mark, but will be willing to stretch that budget a bit further if the gains are worth it.
I have a few cards in mind, and would like your opinion on what is best for gaming and best for price.

Sapphire HD4870 1GB ($200 AUS)

Sapphire HD4890 1GB ($250 AUS)

Palit GeForce GTX260+ 216 896mb ($225 AUS)

Gigabyte HD4890 1GB ($270 AUS)

Those cards seem awful similar to me, and is quite difficult for me to pick a clear winner. Even though 2 of those shown above are sapphire, I have no preference to the brand. I would like to know if the HD4890 is really worth the extra $50 over the HD4870. Would I notice the difference? Feel free to suggest entirely different cards around the same price mark.

Go for that latest 5800 series. the 5850 is very good, the 5770 costs less and has lower performance but it beats the 4850 and 4870 i believe. plus all the 5xxx cars have DX11

The 5800 series start at $350+, and the 5700 series at just over $300, and that is more than I am willing to pay.

I think in Australia the 5850 is alittle out of his price range.

The 5770 is a tad slower then the 4870. The 4890 beats the GTX 260 and 5770.

Oh, always best to check, but will these all be able to run smoothly on a Apevia Warlock 750W PSU (quad 12V(25A) rails)?

They have the same memory clocks 975X4=3900. They just list it different. Gigabyte an Sapphire both make good cards. The clocks GPU/Memory, some just overclock them by default. Which ever one looks like it has the best cooling is the one I would go with.

Well I dont like Apevia PSUs but it should power a 4890 fine.

Ah. Thanks for your help stranglehold, I shall have a think about it now that I have a bit more information about the cards. :)

In your price range. I think the 4890 would be your best bet. Looking at both cards, neither one vents out the back. I would save a few bucks and go with the Sapphire.

I've just been reading through other sites reviews of each of the individual HD4890s, and all of them are saying basically the same thing... 'The gigabyte has a good quality after market zalman fan, which is very quiet'. 'The major drawback to the sapphire card is a very loud fan'. Personally, for $20, I would go with the more quiet option. (After all, I am upgrading my card because the fan on my current card (which needs upgrading anyway) is slightly damaged and makes a loud noise, which really drives you crazy after a while).

But HD5770 performs only slightly better than GTS 250 or HD4850

So, there is no reason to buy HD5770 when you can get GTX 260+ or HD4870 for cheaper price, unless you care about power consumption
