HD6970 2gb

Im suprised by those results actually,Id have thought it would consume alot more than that on full load.

Ive also though about just getting another 460 and doing SLI but my other Pci-e slot is only x4 speed, and im not 100% sure but when you SLI two cards your still only able to use the memory on the one card right?

Hmm it's not a bad card, just the cooler is a little loud apparently.
yeah I thought x4 would kind of ruin a second 460, however, I found this little thread, it seems a 460 can barely saturate a x4 slot. Just make sure it physically fits.

Yeah, if you have a 1GB card then adding another will not give you 2GB of memory; each card will use it's 1GB on the frame it's rendering, they alternate. Though you probably know that, haha

So if I had 2x 1280MB GTX 470s, only 1280MB would be used? Leaving 1280MB unused?

Correct. But not correct.

The first card renders one full frame and then the next card renders the next frame and so on. If you picture SLI working in this way it is easy to see that each frame only has 1280MB of memory to work with.

Gonna see what my money is like in a month or two,im gonna sell my Xbox 360 + its games so that should bring in about £100-110,then if i sold my 460 aswell should have a nice amount to put towards a 6970 or something.

I know the 6000 series not come out long ago,but has there been word of anything else comming out soon that you know of?

Not sure exactly, but judging by roadmaps, it looks like it'll be the dual-GPU 6990 next then HD6770, which replaces 5670 I assume. 6770 won't be an upgrade over 460, and 6990... Well you'd have to do a few major upgrades on your rig first to handle that.

EDIT: Maybe a GTX570 would be a more worthwhile upgrade.

I would honestly either go with a 570, which is more cost effective than a 6970, or a 6950. Hexus sum up what most others have shown from testing, and why the 6950 is the much better choice between the 2, but for the price, if it is right, a 570 is easily the best bet:

I personally would go with whichever is the lowest price you can get between the 570 and the 6950
