Can you add another HDD on your secondary IDE (as a slave) with your DVD burner? Will it affect the performance? Would it be faster than on USB 2.0 as an external drive?

You can add it but the harddrive will have a slower theoretical peak transfer rate while the DVD drive is active.
 
Thanks! should I use 40 or 80 wire cable? I assume by active, you mean "In Use", not powered on? Is it best to have the DVD as master? I rarely use the DVD and I want to add another share drive on my network.
 
Go with 80wire whenever possible. By active I mean there is a disc in the drive and it's being accessed. Having the dvd master is fine.
