Hdd help

i need some help on this one. simply: i have a IDE HDD that is reconized in bio but not recognized by windows, ubuntu liveCD, or testdisk.

ideas?

(the drive in question is a friends Maxtor drive)

yeah, other IDE drives work. i am sure the drive is broken, my question is how and can i repair it. i have read that if bios recognizes the drive but says the drive size is 0bytes then it's trash, but bio recognizes the correct size. i also read that i may need to rebuild the partition tables, but i don't know how to do that if testdisk can't recognize the drive.

Sorry, but there is no fixing it. What you can do to get some of the data off of it is stick it in the freezer for a couple hours, then run it. Might work.
 
Well, there is no way for me to be 100% sure. And yes, you will here it spin. Question, is the drive noisy? As in maybe some sort of rattling/scratching or something like that?

And my brother tried that trick, but it didn't work for him.
