I have a recently formatted harddrive. It is currently storing just some files.

I want to partition it, and install vista on one partition.

It will be on a DS3. Like what SATA port and stuff.

I would like a reasonable of space for vista, just going to use vista for Halo 2.
And I want another one to be backup. For my current hdd.

I want to partition first, right?

I downloaded free ware called, gparted or something.

What do I do to back up my 250gb hdd on a partition?

I want to make a 250gb partition. And maybe an 80gb partition for vista. And I will probably have around 170gb to sprare, depending on what the actual size of the 500gb is.

Also, I have a 250gb hdd.
That is powering linux.
And I have a 500watt ultra psu.

Thanks

Im not really getting it... you have a 250GB HDD and you want 2 partitions, one 80GB for Vista and 170GB for another partition... Yes you will nede to partition first and make 2 partitions then choose the 80GB one to install vista on it...
PS on the very bottom i hope you mean you have a 500 WATT Ultra PSU right? notGB

I want to partition the 500gb hdd.
I just mentioned i have another hdd, that is 200gb that i do not want to touch at all.

when you bought the 500GB HDD it would have come with a CD that lets you partition and make your own partitions, make your own partitions, when done restart, boot from vista CD, select whichever partition you want to install it on, and tahts it.
